Bibidi had a son, and that son was named Babidi, and they created Majin BOO! Welcome to this issue of Shibuya’s Scrambled Sounds !

While I might change my mind at some point, I kind of like not giving albums rankings anymore. While I’m a big rateyourmusic fan, I mainly use it as a way to keep track with albums I’ve listened to rather than “rating” them.

I hope you enjoy this new way of viewing the albums I find and like. Maybe it will help you find more music that you enjoy. 😌

Genre: Indie Rock, Indie Pop, Shoegaze

Just solid, absolutely solid from front to back. Nothing groundbreaking, just a collection of Rock/Pop songs made with a lot of passion. Kind of like a modern, slightly more technical version of Three Out Change era Supercar.

Peterparker69 - yo,

Genre: Hyperpop, R&B

Peterparker69 is really good at pushing Pop as far as it can go with some obvious Sophie / Hyperpop influences. This duo modifies the pitches of their voices so much, I don’t even know what they sound like normally. This is slowly climbing it’s way up to the top of my year end list.

brooks - maison brooks

Genre: Psychedelic Pop, Indie Pop

Another Indie band with all English lyrics, but they like Stereolab and Can so I forgive them. They even reference “Metronomic Underground” at the end of the final track.

Asunojokei - Think of You

Genre: Blackgaze (Black Metal + Shoegaze)

While I did see Deafheaven perform almost all of Sunbather live in like 2013 when the album came out, I’ve been really out of touch with most Metal subgenres since then. To me this sounds really genre bending. Basically it’s cheesy anime guitar rock with reverbed out screaming over it and I honestly love it. But please tell me if I’m wrong in thinking this is new.

Keiji Haino + Shuta Hasunuma - U ta

Genre: Ambient, Electronic, Improvisational

Who knew these 2 legends would collaborate. As for all Keiji Haino material, you really gotta be in the mood for it. However, if you like to hear someone ramble over some ambience/minimal electronic beats, look no further.

toe - The Book About My Idle Plot on a Vague Anxiety (2005)

Genre: Math-Rock, Midwest Emo, Post-Rock

This era of toe is the perfect hybrid of Don Caballero and American Football. At a time when Midwestern Emo was at an all time low, toe really did come through with an album that aged extremely well.

The beautiful twinkly guitars on “past and language” and that moment when the drums come in on “metronome” (track 10), get me every time. When I first heard this album, I was going through my anti-Emo phase, but now that I’m a little older and appreciate what was going on at that time a little more, I can say this is a Math Rock classic.

*It’s true what everyone says, Math Rock always sounds better without vocals.
*This statement may or may not be true, depends on the reader’s worldview.
