🎧 A Shibuya's Scrambled Sounds Special Announcement
So long and good night... HAHA GOTCHA
Hey everyone, welcome to a quick special issue of Shibuya’s Scrambled Sounds !
I hope you had a nice week.
🗞️ The News 🗞️
It’s not you it’s me.
I’m sure most of you who have been long time followers have noticed that I haven’t been so consistent recently. I apologize for that, but I’m also sure y’all understand that having a full time job and doing this is a lot of work. Despite how much fun and accomplishment I felt writing this newsletter, I also felt like a lot of my evenings and 60% of my weekends were dedicated to this newsletter. I got burned out.
I was also tired of listening to just music from Japan every week. I found myself wanting more time to listen to other albums such as the new Mount Eerie, or even the new Kendrick Lamar that just dropped. If I don’t allow myself time to listen to music for enjoyment instead of “work”, it’s so easy for me to get tired of everything. I’m also working on my own music very slowly and hope to record and put out an EP in the near future and I felt that this project took me away from that.
So I’ve decided that I’ll send out this newsletter once a month until the end of the year. Especially since A) one of my best friends is in Japan visiting for the next couple of weeks and B) I’m actually gonna be back in the US for a couple of weeks at the end of December, which means time with family and friends.
I’m hopeful that giving me this extra time will revitalize my passionate for this project.
But this is not the end
The show will go on.
This newsletter will be released on a bi-weekly schedule when the new year starts, and I have plans to make a year end list for albums, maybe for songs too!
While there will probably be lots of small changes implemented throughout the newsletter’s lifetime, there is one big change that will start now.
No more The Sushi Platter
I first started The Sushi Platter as a little segment where I could highlight some of my favorite artists entire discographies. I thought it would be fun and it is, but revisiting entire discographies and writing down all of my thoughts was pretty tiring. I thought it would be the opposite, but I was wrong. Both the perfectionist and procrastinator in me really came out for this segment in a not so healthy way.
If there is gonna be a French Revolution style revolt and everyone messages me saying it was their favorite issue, I might consider doing it again. BUT THERE WILL BE SACRIFICES.
Seriously though, this just opens up the doors for me to talk about more albums in the Mystery Bento sections of every issue, which will definitely continue.
So 2 gifts for you this issue
I will continue posting about Japanese albums and songs I’m listening to on Instagram more frequently than before! It’s way easier and takes less time to just post a story or two with what I’m listening to, both old and new.
Also… this issue has a BONUS LIGHTNING ROUND! Just some pics and links to a few albums I’ve been visiting on and off over the past week and will be in consideration for the next issue. I’ll be honest, I have mixed feelings about some of them, but you may have different views. There are definitely great tracks sprinkled throughout these albums, and the ones that grow on me might get a full review in the future 😌
